What People Say About Janome Magnolia 7318:

“The only downside to this machine that I found is that you cant adjust the needle from side to side. I solved the issue it caused me by ordering the Janome 1/4 inch foot. After struggling with cheap Singer and Brother machines for years, and a faulty supposedly Heavy Duty Singer, I decided to give this machine a try. I’ve had this machine for about 6 months and have sewn with delicate ballgown materials, to vinyl, to high pile plush, with no difficulty. I’m a toy design student making plush, and this machine saved my semester! At this point, after many sewing all-nighters, I’d say I’m pretty bonded with my machine. A friend of mine from my class bought the Singer Heavy duty, which I also considered, and has been having problems. Please do go with this mechanical Janome Magnolia!” – Jess

Janome Magnolia 7318 Pros Janome Magnolia 7318 is the best sewing machine for casual and beginning sewists with the balance of versatility, quality and price in its variety of useful features

“As a complete beginner, it was so easy to set up, start playing with and actually begin to sew with. The stitching is nice and it was fun to may my own “examples” so I know what I need to use when making projects. It is a wonderfully simple machine with enough bells and whistles to keep me busy for quite some time. I do not perceive that I will outgrow this model for a while, even though I eventually plan to make elaborate items of classic ladies clothing with it. So far, I have already made an apron and it is a two sided/reversible type. Literally one hour out of the box it worked great – no snags, no birds nests – just nice even stitches. Even the reverse button works well for strengthening the straps! I’m pleased it is light enough to carry although I purchased a nice roller bag specifically made for sewing machines so I could pack it back and forth between classes, a small sewing circle my friends and I created, and to my boyfriends home. As a true beginner, I am really enjoying the process, and I believe it is because this Janome is well rated, and has lived up to everything I read about it. I would recommend it to those who are considering taking up sewing or just want a sturdy, functional, yet enjoyable machine.” – Susan Louise “Susan”

What People Say About Janome Magnolia 7318 Janome Magnolia 7318 is the best sewing machine for casual and beginning sewists with the balance of versatility, quality and price in its variety of useful features

“Within 15 minutes of taking this machine out of the box, I had the bobbin loaded, the needle threaded and was testing various stitches. The manual is very clear and considering that I am a complete beginner to sewing that’s saying a lot. During the last month I have made a sewing machine cover using thick oilcloth, a tote bag out of canvas, several zipper bags and a heavy weight sweatshirt fleece jacket. While I’ve made a few mistakes, they have all been due to operator problems, and not because of the machine. So far not one jam up. The easy to use drop-in bobbin gets the lion’s share of the credit for this. It’s so nice to be learning to sew on a frustration-free machine!

The Magnolia 7318 is a solid, mechanical machine weighing 16.7 pounds with 18 stitches and a 4-step buttonhole. It’s still light enough to carry to classes, but heavy enough to be sturdy while sewing heavier fabrics. The width and length of stitches are adjustable and the needle position can be adjusted to right or left of center. Speed of sewing is foot controlled. The feed dogs can be lowered for putting on buttons, darning projects and quilting.

There is no automatic needle threader, but threading the needle manually is very easy even for someone pushing 60. Another feature many beginners like is a one step buttonhole but I have had no problems with the four step button hole. It’s fairly simple to use with a bit of practice. The machine does not come with a cover. My opinion is that the machine is neither quiet, nor noisy. It is about average in this regard. You have to remove the extension table to lower the feed dogs, which some quilters may not like. For me, this is not an issue.” – Khrisna Kavi
